TIMARU SOCIAL NOTES.

Mr and Mrs T. J. Newlands (Wellington) are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs 11. Steer (Dunedin) are staying at the Grosvenor Hotel. Mile Blanche Le Jeune (Paris) is staying at Orari Gorge. Mrs Fitzgerald (Christchurch) is staying at the Grosvenor Hotel. Mrs Hamilton (Redcliffs) is staying with Mrs A. B. Temple (“ Castlewood,” Geraldine). Mrs D. Burnett and Miss Marawell Burnett (Wai-iti Road) have returned to Hakataramea. f Mrs Howard Tripp (Wai-iti Road) left yesterday to spend a few days in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs A. W. Smellie (Christchurch) are staying at the Grosvenor Hotel. Miss Fynes-Clinton (Invercargill) has arrived to stay with her sister, Mrs F Newton (Maltby Avenue). Mrs T. Northcote (“ The Doone,” Waiau) will arrive to-day to be the guest of Mrs Arthur Hope (“ Tumanako,” Wai-iti Road). Mrs Frank Corkill (Invercargill), who has been staying with Mrs E. A. Scott (Seddon Street), has returned to the south. Mr and Mrs F. M. Gilmour (Wellington), who were recently in Timaru, are now visiting Queenstown and the Southern Lakes. Miss Betty Gillies (Mayfield), who has been staying with Mrs R, L. Orbell (“The Croft”), has returned to her home. Miss Ailie Gillies (Mayfield) has returned to Craighead, after spending a few days with Mrs P. Johnston (Raincliff). Mrs R. Gillies (Mayfield) returned home yesterday, after spending a few rs • p - Johnston (Raincliffe). Brown and orange was the colour scheme in [Miss Hay’s drawing-room on Monday afternoon, when she entertained the friends of Miss Nancy Orbell (“The Croft”) at afternoon tea. Miss Hay received her guests wearing a frock of brown crepeline, lightened by touches of beige. The tea table was arranged with vases of pink sweet peas. The guests invited included:—Mrs R. L. Orbell, Miss Nancy Orbell, Miss Dendrah Rhodes, Misses Betty and Janet Cossins, Miss Joan Ritchie (Dunedin), Miss Margery Gibson, Misses Mary and Rosamond Rolleston, Miss Jov Upton (England), Miss E. Westmacott, Miss Peggy Unwin, Miss Betty Gillies and Miss Lou Cartwright.
