The North Canterbur3' Hospital Board is finding more calls being made on its funds for helping indigent cases. The Benevolent Committee reported this morning that during the previous four weeks 988 applications for benevolent relief had been dealt with, the number of persons represented being 3723. There were also fifteen applications for admission to institutions. The demands on the committee’s funds were still very great, which was, perhaps, explained by the fact that many organisations that gave relief during the winter months had now exhausted their funds, and consequently the burden fell on the board.
