INCREASED BANK CHARGE RESENTED BY FARMERS.
When it was reported to this afternoon’s meeting of the executive of the Farmers’ Union that the bank charge had been increased, Mr H. G. Parish expressed resentment at the extra charge, while another member stated that the increase would have a reaction on the bank itself. _ . The president (Mr Colin M’lntosh) expressed the opinion, however, that the move had been forced on the bank by the Government increasing the tax on notes. A circular on the subject was received from the Dominion executive stating that the reply of the actingPrime Minister (the Hon E. A. Ransom) to a protest was unsatisfactory, the Minister stating that the Government could not interfere as the matter was entirely between banks and theii customers. The Government was of the opinion, however, that the banks might have refrained from imposing the additional charges during the economic depression. The letter was received.
