WINDOW-BREAKER FINED BY COURT.
SMASHED PANE IN A CHINESE LAUNDRY.
At the Rangiora Magistrate’s Court to-day, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., John Joseph Dunick, of Ohoka, was charged that on September 9, at Rangiora, he wilfully broke three panes of glass, valued at £5 17s 6d, the property of D. M’Kay.
Sergeant Cassidy prosecuted, and Mr W. J. Stacey appeared for accused, who pleaded not guilty. Cornelius O’Neill, gave evidence that accused with a youth named Fidler, and witness (who were charged at the previous sitting of the Court with the offence) broke the windows of a Chinese laundry.
Accused was convicted and fined £lO with costs ISs, and witnesses’ expenses £2 9s 6d, and ordered to pay £1 19s 2d proportion of the damage, in default one mouth’s imprisonment with hard labour.
On the application of counsel, fourteen days were allowed in which to pay the fine . provided accused reported to the police at Rangiora twice each week.
A second charge against Dunick that at Fernside, on September 6, he incited R. L. Thornton to behave in a disrderly manner and commit violence, was dismissed.
