MAN CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENT DRIVING.

CONSTABLE declares MOTORIST INTOXICATED.

E'er Press Association.

WELLINGTON, October 15.

Clarence Douglas Hector Orr was charged before Mr E. Page, S.M., today, with negligently driving a motorcar and thereby causing the death of Marco William Humphrey. The charge arose out of a collision with a motor-cycle on September 19 on the Hutt Road.

Constable Morrison, who patrols the Hutt Road, said that the night was fine, the road dry and visibility good. The skid marks of defendant’s car were on the wrong side of the road. From a conversation with Orr witness came_ to the conclusion that he was intoxicated. Cross-examined, he said that he did not charge Orr with intoxication. He saw him about an hour and a half later at the Police Station, but his condition had not changed very much. Constable Moore said that he found the car and cycle locked together. He could see that the car had travelled some distance on the wrong side of the road. In witness’s opinion Orr was under the influence of liquor and was not fit to be in charge of a car. The case is proceeding.
