MARK MEMORIAL.

SUNNY 808 ENGAGED. (By OBSERVER.) The attention of all trotting enthusiasts will focus to-morrow on Claudelands, where the Waikato Trotting Club will hold its spring meeting. The fields in the principal event and the two trotting races are on the small side, but there are quite a number of acceptors in some of the other events. Many of those in the better filled minor classes have more than one engagement, so it is difficult at present to anticipate the number of starters in some of these races. C. S. Donald, who has previously had a successful time on this course, has a useful team engaged. Introductory Handicap. The eight trotters carded for this 4.10 class mile and five furlongs are not select, and Ben Bingen, although giving away 96 yards to the limit trip, looks the most likely to carry off first honours. Joy Ride, oil 4S yards, appears likely to be the one to offer the most serious opposition. Roto, on 24 3'ards, may be the next best. Kewpie’s Guy in Form. The Frankton Handicap, a 3.56 class event, also of thirteen furlongs, should suit Kewpie’s Guy nicely. On the second day of the Auckland relief meeting, the Blue Mountain King mare was a solid favourite for a 3.40 class mile and a half, which she duly annexed after a smart display over the concluding furlong. Her chance from the limit of to-morrow’s, race looks good. Windshield, also on scratch, is a horse that will win his share this season, while Tiny Rose has shown winning form. Author Franz, on 24 yards, represents C. S. Donald’s Belfast stable, and this fact will be sufficient to ensure considerable support. On his best time—--2.17 in a mile saddle event at Oamaru —he should have a reasonable chance. Inverness, on 72 yards, was one of the most consistent pacers in his class last season. Kewpie’s Guy and Author Franz look hardest to beat, and Windshield may J»e well to the front, too. The Mark Memorial. The fact that there are only eight acceptors, and not all of these considered at the top of their class, is rather a disappointing feature of the chief event’which carries a £4OO stake. Te Wahia (12 yards) appears the best proposition of those in the first two rows, but it must be remembered that a third to Tony Victor and Hal Chimes in the Thames Trotting Cup is his only recommendation for the two-mile journey. Donald’s representative, Sunqy Bob, is on 24 yards. This fellow seems useful, and the mere fact of his journeying so far afield will encourage many to support him. He has evidently improved since his appearance at New Brighton last month. Warspite, afso on 24 yards, has given promise of furnishing into a good performer over the two-mile journey. Belle Axworthy, on 36 yards, finished up the 1929-30 season with a string of seven placed performances, including four wins. Only once was she tried at two miles, and she was then third to Limosa and Warspite at the Otahuhu spring meeting. She is a brilliant, mare and being by Travis Axworthy from Belle Bingen, she lacks nothing so far as breeding goes. Belle Axworthy and Warspite should make matters difficult for Sunny Bob. Paradigm Favoured. The Hamilton Trot, a 4.48 class, two miles, also has a small field, only seven remaining on the card. Paradigm, on 36yds, will probably be very well fancied by investors. At the Auckland relief meeting, after running second to Surprise Journey on the first day, she was beaten a head by Gold Sovereign in a 4.46 class race on the second day, and has again been placed on a 4.45 mark. Kolmar, on 24yds, should be somewhere handy at the finish, and Anseline, on 36vds, has also to be considered. Many Acceptors. Nineteen horses have been accepted for in the Claudelands Handicap, a 3 min class, mile and a quarter. Quite a number have other engagements, so the field may be reduced before reaching the starter. Kewpie’s Guy is again engaged and should be supported if started here from the limit. Bingen Crest is a very smart pacer on 36yds. She proved herself a very promising youngster by winning three races on end towards the close of last season. Automatic, from C. S. Donald’s stable, is also engaged. A reproduction of his best would give him a fair chance, and he has not yet disclosed all he is capable of. The Mile Sprint. Donald also has Brook Pointer engaged in the 2.18 class Stewards’ Handicap. From the limit, Brook Pointer should set the remainder a merry dance, but he will certainly have to step along if he is to remain in front of that very consistent mare, Nella Dillon (24yds) and the improving Dan Direct (12yds). Slow Class Two Miles. The distance of the 4.50 class President’s Handicap will find out the majority of the contestants. Lucy Beil has not an imposing record, but her fourth placing in a better class event at Auckland last month entitles her to respect. Author Franz (scr) and Gun*digger (24yds) are again engaged and should show up. ,If any of this trio is missing, Nelson Dillon, on 60yds, may be found taking a prominent part in the final settlement. The Final Event. Bingen Crest is on scratch in the 2.57 class mile and a quarter entitled the Visitors’ Handicap. If reserved for this she should make her presence felt. Pavlova, on 24yds,'appears likely to secure some of the money. Bell Dial (24yds) and Queen Elizabeth (48 yds) have been off the scene for some months, but should both run solid races. HAMILTON PROSPECTS. (Special to the “ Star.”) HAMILTON, October 9. The weather is excellent, and promises well for the meeting on Saturday. There was little work on the track this morning, trainers being content to jog their teams. II Barnett is here with Bonniewah and Lady Jewel. Both pacers look as though they have done a good preparation. He did not bring Audo Spray. C. Donald had not arrived this morning with his team from Christchurch, but they are expected to-morrow.
