INVESTIGATION INTO PETROL PRICE WANTED.
The newly elected committee of ths South Island Motor Union met, last evening: present— Messrs F. W. Jononston (chairman), W. L. Minson. H. Harley, J. L. Banks. VT. R. Carey. J. SHawkes. F. W. Freeman, R. H. Parker and P. R. Harman (secretary). Retail petrol prices were discussed, and it was decided to write to the North Island Motor Union with a view to getting an investigation made by the Government. Mr Johnston referred to the advertisements erected at level crossings by the Railwav Department. These bright and attractive hoardings, he said, were put there to catch the eye of the motorist, and thev distracted his attentjon when about to cross. The Sockburn crossing had hoardings on its south side, and he was of opinion that tb«y should be removed. It was decided that the Railway Department be written to requesting that hoardings at level crossings be removed. with special mention of the S’ockburn crossing.
