SPRING FASHIONS

:: The Question Of Skirt Lengths, Waistlines, And Fabrics The Spring and Summer seasons of 1930 promise great things in fashion. All the recent changes have gained ground, and many outstanding effects have been achieved. For example, many dresses this spring have a matching coat or cape whether for morning, afternoon or evening wear. Paris Fashions are emphatic with regard to much longer skirts for street wear, but London will consent to only an added inch or two at the most. Dance frocks will reach to the ankle, but for dinner wear and ceremonious occasions they will reach to the ground. The marked waistline will mean that some figures will require a little more control by means of supports than has been the case for the past few seasons. In addition to the importance of line in the new Spring Fashions, there comes the selection of fabrics; both plain and patterned. Tweed and tweed-like fabrics, plain heavy crepe-de-chine, crepe marocain and satin, and the trebling of the weight of georgette and chiffon — these are the outstanding features. Printed silks will again be much used. Softness and suppleness are seen in the new woollens, and lightness of weight is again emphasised. Many of the new tweeds exhibit qualities of men’s suitings in colour mixtures and small patterns. Laces promise to continue their successful career of last year. Cottons—designed and woven to accord with the new modes—are expected to find great favour; in fact, they may be one of the most popular fabrics of the new season. The colour choice is varied—too much so to go into here—but if any eight plain tones may be said to be more fashionable than others, they are:— Opaline Pink Rose Opal Ruby Red Dandy Green Venice Blue Pennant Blue Moine Brown Glycine and Mignonette Ballantynes are showing New Season’s Goods and cordially invite your inspection of the latest in Spring Fashion Apparel for 1930.
