An Atheist’s Reply.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I presume that anyone with different views from “Sanity” is insane. I am not in a position to say why Spiritualists hold their seances at night any more than I can say why church services are held at night. I am not a Spiritualist, and have only been to one seance, and I went to that to have a good laugh, but I came away with the idea that there is something in it. Sir Conan Doyle and Dr Lascelles went for the same reason and found out their mistake and believed it. and I believe did wonderful work. I am going to enlighten “Sanity” that all spiritual healing is done by prayer and faith in God and Jesus. In fact, all Spiritualism has the foundation of the Bible, life everlasting. “Sanity” says that truly spiritual people have the divine light shining in their laces. Then there arc no parsons in Christchurch with that light shining. I have read one or two of “Sanity’s” epistles and have thought them terribly wishy-washy and narrow minded. I think if "Sanity” could get in touch with Peter Trolove the latter could show him that he is nearly ready for the "bug-house.” Although I do not believe in Spiritualism, I do not disbelieve it. 1 hold it in abeyance. A few years ago if he had been told that a message or a concert in New York could be heard at the South Pole without the use of wires or cables he would have said they were mad also, the same as many of his kidney did say, but they changed their tune. I will not write more to "Sanity,” but 1 could not help this. I could not let “Sanity” get away with such a lot of bunkum, and the sooner he finds out a bit more of Spiritualism (practical) and not too much of his church, he will be able to write something sensible. The religion of to-day is nothing but superstition and grasp. Adieu "Sanity.” I will visit you at that place on Lincoln Road, for that is where you are heading for.—l am, etc. ATHEIST.
