Time, 2min 21sec. NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to the “Star”) TRENTHAM. July 10. Conditions were very wintry to-day and a shower fell before the first race. Avro was favourite for the Corunna Hurdles, and had the race won at the entrance to the straight. Deluge led out of the straight, but Avro headed him five furlongs from home, Make Up being second a little further on. These two turned for home together. Avro then drew out, and despite a bad jump at the last hurdle, where Mountain Guide fell, Avro won comfortably. Paris came on with a late run to get third.

Coon Song, Ganpat and Arisus were heavily backed in the Trial Plate. Arisus, ridden by Gray, whipped round at the start and took no part in the race. Coon Song, always prominent, was out clear at the entrance to the straight and won easily, confirming his first day’s form. Rosshire finished on to get second. Desert Song was well placed early. Dunraven ran a fair race, finishing ninth. Town Major, Snow Prince and The Warden were best backed in the Seatoun Handicap. Snow Prince and Semper Paratus made most of the running and led to the straight, where both dropped back after some crowding. Town Major then shot out, winning easily from Tahoma, with Malahat, The Warden and Brilliant Light next. The winner’s performance was good, as he met trouble on the journey. Another favourite scored when Hymestrason won the Mariri Hwck Steeples. He was in the rear in the early stages but took charge seven furlongs from home and won easily. He is a clever jumper and will win a lot more steeplechases if he remains sound. He was the third first day winner to succeed to-day. ®ISES®HIES SI IS !H ill IS iS IS IS 531*3 IE ill IS E
