Only records accomplished behind the 60-centimetre roller are to be recognisted in the future. The race has been held on the first Saturday in October for several years now, and this date has proved to be the most suitable for the event. There appears to be every prospect of the North Canterbury Centre’s road race starting from Waimate this year. Wainv:tc is likely to be the starting point of the North Canterbury Ath- •• big road race this year. It was originally intended that the nice be started at Oamaru, but difficulties in arranging finance gave the union some cause for reconsideration. Waimate sportsmen came to their aid and last evening it tvas announced that approximately £SO could be raised in that town. It was stated that riders were more favourable to Waimate, as this point would shorten the race by twenty-two miles. The chairman, Mr W. J. Walter, said that Oamaru sportsmen had been anxious to have the race, but some difficulty had arisen over funds. Messrs Walter, P. C. Lucas and M. J. Coffey were appointed a sub-com-mittee to take action on receipt of information from Waimate. Means of checking up the riders in the race were discussed, it being suggested that there should be a checking station at the Selwyn bridge and another between the Selwyn and Christchurch. A member declared that very often riders came in at the finish of the race who had not ridden o\ r er the Selwyn bridge.
