Levity At A Funeral.
To the Editor.
Dear Sir,—With many other citizens who, although they did not agree with the politics of the late Councillor Cooke, respected him as a man of unshakable faith in his opinions, I attended the funeral yesterday, and was amazed at the speech made by the Mayor. It was a great shock to many present at the funeral to hear the Mayor become facetious in his remarks. The occasion was surely one when levity was distinctly to be deplored, and there were many present who were roused to a high pitch of impatience by the Mayor’s oration.—l am, etc., C.B.M.
