PARENTS FEAR TRAFFIC DANGER.
SCHEME TO PROTECT CHILDREN IN STREET.
(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, April 3. A method of safeguarding*children, who, on leaving school, have to cross streets subject to heavy traffic, has been suggested. The idea is that two or three dependable lads from the sixth standard should be trained to gather the smaller pupils who wish to cross the street and at the proper moment to hold up traffic from both ways and thus ensure a safe crossing. The boys in control would be liberated, a few minutes before the rest and would be given a badge to vest them with some authority for a few minutes each day. If this were done, it is argued, parents would be relieved of considerable anxiety.
