COMPANY HAS NO COMMENT TO MAKE.

AWAITS ADVICE OF BROADCASTING TERMS.

Until official advice is received from the New Zealand Rugby Union regarding the conditions upon which it will allow matches with the British Rugby team to be broadcast, the Radio Broadcasting Compsmy of New Zealand will make no public reply.

The broad policy of the broadcasting company, Mr Harris indicated to-day, was not to pay for relays under any consideration, as the company was not seeking the privilege for itself. All it was endeavouring to do was to meet the desires of listeners-in, and to keep them in touch with public happenings. The company’s concern ceased when it had made its application for permission to broadcast.

The conditions upon which sanction to broadcast will be granted are outlined in Press telegrams from Wellington published to-day. The conditions, which according to one speaker at the meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Union last night would test the sincerity of the company, are that the company, in return for the privilege of broadcasting, should make a donation to provide radio sets for the use of patients in hospitals and charitable institutions.

About two hundred letters urging a continuation of the agitation for the broadcasting of Rugby matches have been received by Mr G. P. Aldridge, secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Association, who was the announcer for the Sarron-Donovan fights. Mr Aldridge states in a letter that his appeal for the broadcasting of big sporting events has resulted in a general inundation of his office in Wellington with telegrams and letters, all expressing their appreciation of Mr Aldridge’s announcing of the fights *nd urging a continuance of the agitation for the broadcasting of Rugby matches. The majority of the letters, which numbered about 200, were from the backblocks.
