ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY ESSAY RESULTS GIVEN.
The secretary of the Royal Empire Society supplies the following results of the essay competition for 1929. Out of entries from all over the British Empire the following entrants from New Zealand are mentioned: —
Class A (over sixteen years of age, 108 essays received; subject, “The history and importance of the present Mediterranean possession of Great Britain”)—Honourable mention: Percy Arnold Muirhead (Waitaki Boys’ School), Neville Barker (St Andrew’s College). Class C (under fourteen years of age, 170 essays received; subject, “ Give, an account of Island life in the Pacific ) Honourable mention: Tui Hadfield (3, Brightside Road, Epsom, Auckland), Barbara Bates (Diocesan High School, Auckland).
