PROMISE NOT BINDING, MINISTER ANNOUNCES

(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, April 3. The Minister of Health has written to the Takapuna Borough Council agreeing to refund £3OO, the costs incurred by the borough in litigation last year on the question of building upon the Lake Pupuke watershed area. The Minister said that the Government was not prepared to bear similar expenses in future, and he withdrew an undertaking to do so given by the previous Government. Comment was made at last evening’s meeting upon what was described as the extraordinary action of the Government in withdrawing an undertaking solemnly entered into. It was decided to protest against the attitude of the present Government.
