WAIMAKARIRI RIVER TRUST MET YESTERDAY.
’ The Waimakariri River Trust met j yesterday afternoon. Present: Mr J. ; Wood (chairman), Sir Francis Boys, Messrs J. Leslie, j. A. Flesher, W. P. [ Spencer, A. Manhire, J. H. Blackwell, R. ■ O. Dixon and George Gould. ■ The resident engineer, Mr H. W. Har- : ris, reported that the road work at Kai- > anga had been completed, while the j- North Road deviation had been consoli- ; dated by rolling. The part mentioned, ; a distance of forty-two chains would be : open for traffic this week. The comple- ’ pion of the south approaches to the 1 bridge from Stewart’s Gully Road was i commenced on Monday. THE NEW BRIDGE. y\t the date of the report there were twelve piles to be driven for the new Waimakariri bridge. Sixteen spans were completed, twenty-two piers were finished, and the girders to pier 20 had been put in position, while seven spans of hand railing had been erected. A further sum of £5065 4s lid had been received from the Public Works Department by way of subsidy, making a total received to date of £17,987 2s 7d. A start had been made on the bridge approach and road deviation at the north side of the bridge,' while the northern stopbank, except at road intersections and a small portion of the Kaikanui end, had been completed. There was quite a demand for soil at the barrow pits, and a charge of ninepence per yard had been put on for loading. The best prices received for the buildings at Wrights were as follows: House, £27 10s; stable, £3 10s: barn, £l2; whare, £5. The demolition work was almost completed, and the work was being hurried on to enable the gap in the bank to be closed up.
