BOXING,

AMATEUR BOXING AND SPORTS CLUB MEETS.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Christchurch Amateur Boxing and Sports Club was held on Monday evening, when there were present:— Messrs J. D. Hutchison (chairman). R. H. Livingstone, A. E. Talbot, A. J. Fraser. G. G. Gardiner,, N. M’Gillivray and C. H. Taylor, jun. Mr Livingstone reported on behalf of the Match Committee that the Civic Theatre had been secured for a tournament to be held by this club on April 2 8. Correspondence had passed between the Match Committee and the association in Wellington concerning a return match between Sarron and Donovan in Christchurch. The Wellington association had wired that afternoon to the effect that Sarron was suffering from an injured hand, and that any arrangement at present was impossible. A match might, however, be obtained at a later date. Negotiations had been opened with J. Broadfoot. and Allan Campbell match, in which the heavyweight championship would, subject to the approval of the association, be involved. Broadfoot- had wired that he was prepared to meet Campbell, but so far the latter had not responded. The Match Committee hoped to stage as one of the preliminaries at this tourney a bout between Colin Gardiner and G. Spencer. The report of the Match Committee was, on the motion of Mr Fraser, seconded by Mr Talbot, adopted, and the cotnmittee was authorised to carry on. The chairman said he was pleased to note that the new membership campaign was already bearing good fruit, as evidence of which he had pleasure in moving that the applications of Dr Malcolm Gray, Messrs Roy Twyneham, P. P. J. Amodeo and Bede Loughnan .for membership be approved of. The motion was seconded by Mr Taylor and carried unanimously. The secretary was directed to advise the various boxing schools of the approaching tournaments to be staged by the club, and to ascertain the prospects of good cl&ss amateurs.

SARRON'S HAND IS NOW VERY SWOLLEN. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 1. Pete Sarron, the American boxer, has had his injured left hand medically examined, and it is now in a pack. It is still considerably swollen and it will be five weeks at least before he will be able to enter the ring again. If his hand recovers, he will be prepared to meet Tommy Donovan in a return battle, as Sarron is naturally anxious to wipe out last Saturday’s defeat. Though nothing has yet been definitely settled, it is probable that the contest will be staged in Dunedin, but the lateness of the season may prevent the contest from taking place in the open air.
