PRIME MINISTER IN EXCELLENT HEALTH.

| RUMOURS DENIED BY CHRISTCHURCH MAN. . That recent statements and rumours to the effect that the Prime Minister (the Rt Hon Sir Joseph Ward) is not : in a fit state of health to carry out the : duties of his office are not founded on fact is the opinion of Mr L. B. Hart, ; who had the pleasure of interviewing ■ Sir Joseph during a North Island busi- ’ ness tour from which he has just re--1 turned. “I spent a good part of one afternoon with Sir Joseph Ward,” said Mr Hart, “and in view of statements made by some of the Canterbury members of Parliament and others I was surprised to find him in excellent health and in close touch with the business of his departments. The only treatment he is receiving at Rotorua now is for 1 one ankle. Apart from that his health is first rate, and Sir Joseph said that his ankle was rapidly getting right. Sir Joseph has in his room a direct telephone to Wellington and every day he is kept informed of what is going on. My interview with him was interrupted by no less than seven deputations, and after he had dealt with them Sir Joseph did not show the slightest sign of fatigue.” Mr Hart said that during the last twelve months of the late Mr Massey’s term in office he was practically unable, because of his health, to attend to his Ministerial duties. No complaint was raised on that occasion and Mr Hart thought it was only right that Sir Joseph Ward should receive similar consideration.
