SHARKEY TO MEET MAX SCHMELING.

WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT DECIDED ON

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 2, 9.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 1. The New York State 'Athletic Commission to-day sanctioned a fifteenround match between Jack Sharkey

and Max Schrneling at Yankee Stadium on June 12, the winner to be recognised as the world’s heavy-weight champion in New York State.

It was generally recognised that the Madison Square Garden (New York) authorities who promoted the SharkevScott fight at Miami, Florida, would seek permission to match the winner against Schrneling, and apply to the New York Commission to have the contest regarded as for the world’s championship. Of course, the New York Commission does not possess the power to grant such a request, for its powers do not extend beyond the State of New \ orlc, and it will be noted from the cable that this fact is recognised by the Commission. The British Board of Control has a working agreement with the American National Association, the membership of which consists of the representatives of over thirty State Commissions, and there is little doubt that the decision of the New York Commission, that the winner of the Sharkey-Schmeling fight shall be recognised as champion only in the State of New York, is due to a respect for the rights of those other two bodies, which have an international status. At the same time, it is open to belief that the action of the New York Commission is largely due to the demand that someone should be internationally recognised as the successor to Gene Tunney. The winner of the fight on June 12 will have some standing as the person to be challenged for the real world’s championship.
