Tivo sharp no's occurred at Calcutta, when carters, bitterly resenting the recent legislation reducing the carryable loads on bullock and buffalo carts, unhooked their carts and blocked the roads and tram lines in the busiest parts of the city. They received the police with a shower of brickbats. As the mob was getting out of hand the police fired on them. Two hours later a more serious riot occurred. The total casualties known are: KILLED 5 INJURED 60 Those injured include a number of police. In fact, the Commissioner estimates that every second policeman was hurt.
