INTOXICATED DRIVER MUST PAY FINE OF £lo.

Henry Lindsay Squire, aged fortynine years, on a charge of being found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor vehicle in Colombo Street, was convicted and fined £lO, in default one month's imprisonment with hard labour. He appeared at the Magistrate’s Court before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day. Mr Malley represented accused and entered a plea of guilty. The police stated that on February 10 the accused, while in charge of a motor-car, collided with another vehicle at the corner of Colombo Street and Armagh Street. A constable was summoned, and it was found that Squire was not in a fit state to drive a car. Mr Malley said that his client had to spend a good deal of his time at a brewery, and on the afternoon in question he had several beers. It was his first appearance at Court. He was a respectable married man, and had a good reputation. Counsel asked that his license should be not taken away from him as it was the means of his livelihood. The accused was allowed seven days to pay the fine.
