LEAGUE TO HOLD TWO MEETINGS TO-NIGHT.

EXTRAORDINARY THING INDEED,” SAYS MR M’KEON

In different parts of the city two meetings of the Canterbury Rugby League have been called for to-night. One, summoned by the president of the League (Dr H. T. J. Thacker) by advertisement in this morning’s newspapers, is set down for the Y.M.C.A. Rooms at 7.30 p.m. According/ to the advertisement, it will be a meeting of “ all club delegates to hear a deputation of players from all clubs, senior and junior.” Another meeting, which, it is understood, is for much the same purpose as the first meeting, is set down for the Trades Hall at 8 p.m. According to notification received by delegates from the secretary of the League (Mr S. M. Richardson), the latter meeting will be one for members of the executive of the League. “ I understand that the meeting in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms has been definitely called by the president,” stated Mr E. L. M’Keon, one of the trustees of Monica Park, to-day. “ The secretary of the League did not send out notices lor the meeting, though he received Dr Thacker’s letter some days ago. Now I understond that Mr Richardson has sent out the notices for a meetjng at the Trades Hall at 8 pm. “Dr Thacker, as president of the League, has a right to call a meeting. He sent the secretary a registered letter about the middle of last week, to the legistered address of the League, but for some reason or other the letter was not acted upon until last night. Dr Thacker therefore took it upon himself to advertise that the meeting would be held at 7.30 p.m. in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms. This morning, when I, on behalf of the president, spoke to Mr Richaidson, he said that he was then sending out the notices for the meeting. I think that he left it rather late, and I cannot understand the delay. “ What will happen to the meeting at the Y.M.C.A. Rooms if none of the League executive members are there?” asked the reporter. Mr M'Keon replied that he could not say what would happen. It would be one of those extraordinary things that no one ever expected to happen. He thought that the players’ petition asking for the resignations of the chairman, secretary and treasurer of the League would be presented at the meeting at the Y.M.C.A. Rooms. The president of the New Zealand Rugby League (Mr Cyril Snedden), who was asked by Dr Thacker to preside at the meeting, has been unable to leave Auckland. It is probable that the meeting at the Y.M.C.A. Rooms will be presided over by Dr Thacker.

SECRETARY WAS ABSENT IN THE NORTH ISLAND.

The following letter, bearing to-day’s date, has been sent to the president of the League by the secretary:— “ Dear Sir, —Jn compliance with your request uAder date February 5, I beg to notify you that a meeting of the Management Committee has been called for this evening? commencing at 8 p.m. in the Trades Hall. I regret being unable to advise you earlier, as I have just returned from the North Island. (Sgd.) S. M. RICHARDSON, Hon. Secretary ”
