FARMERS’ UNION.
A meeting of the Methven branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the A. and P. Association’s rooms on Friday evening; present—Messrs R. J. S. Wilson (president), J. R. Dalton. R. .J. Low, F. W. liuddenkluu. J. Watson, H. J. Freeman, E. A. Bland, T. S. Al’Donald T. Hawthorne, C. A. Campion, S. Allen, J. H. Stone, Jas. Carr and F. G. Mangin. The president referred to the coming British farmers’ visit, and called on Mr Dalton, of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive, to outline the arrangements suggested. After a visit to Mayfield Show, the visitors would be brought across to Methven, where afternoon tea would be served. Jt was hoped that there would be an opportunity to show the isitors a threshing plant in operation. Supporting the previous speaker's remarks, Mr Bland, as president of the A. and P. Association, stated that his association had not discussed the arrangements so far, but they had no doubt that the association would assist the union in its endeavour to entertain their guests. The president said he thought there was a possibility of the Road Board assisting at the function, and the Methven Trotting Club had donated £5 towards the funds of entertainment. It was decided to appoint a sub-com-mittee, consisting of Messrs R. J. S. Wilson, H. Fryer, E. A. Bland. J. F. Stone, J. R. Dalton, S. G. Holmes and A. G. Freeman, to arrange details for entertaining the visitors on March 22. It was also decided that the sub-com-mittee appointed arrange for a ladies’ committee to assist with the afternoon tea. It was decided to grant the usual donation of £5 to the Methven A. and P. Association’s show. Mr Jas. Carr (director of the Wheat Pool) attended, and gave a resume of the year’s workings of the Wheat. Pool., at the end of which a number of questions were asked and answered. On the motion of Air E. A. Bland, a vote of thanks and confidence was passed unanimously to the chairman, directors and managerial staff of the Wheat Pool.
