INQUEST HELD ON CHILD THAT DIED YESTERDAY.

An inquest touching the death of a six months old infant. Lawrence Hadfield, .was opened by Mr H. A. Young, Coroner, yesterday. The child expired on Saturday afternoon, at 448, Worcester Street. Elsie Hadfield, the mother of the child, gave evidence of identification. She added that the child had been in good health, but on Friday developed a slight cold. The child seemed all right on Saturday, and at 4.15 p.m. witness bathed him and placed him in his cot. Witness went out, leaving the child with Mrs Barr, with whom she lived. The child was given a bottle containing barley-water, milk and sugar. When witness returned at 5.40 p.m., she was told that the child was dead. Mrs I. N. Barr, 448, Worcester Street, testified that the previous witness resided with her. The food given to the child was mixed by witness. It was the usual evening meal given to the child. Half an hour after the mother left the house, witness went to see the child, and found him dead. There was nothing covering his face. Witness called a doo tor immediately. % The Coroner ordered a post-mortem examination to be held, and adjourned the inquiry sine die.
