(Silverwood, who came fast on the outside, was beaten for second place by a long head. Next in order were Dusolina, Major Brent and Becky de Oro. In the Railway Handicap Loretta Napoleon was better backed by 100 tickets than Mac Locanda. The race resolved itself mainly into a contest between the two favourites, with Audience prominent in the early stages. Shortlv after the start Mac Locanda collided with Brentlight, the latter being pulled up. V. Albora’s horse had led at the outset, but was soon replaced by Loretta Napoleon. Passing the stand the first time she was followed closely by audience, with a gap between Mac Locanda, Sonoma Child and Peter Daunt. After going half a mile the pair were still well ahead, and there was no change in the order when passing the stand the second time, except that Peter Daunt had moved up to fourth and Sonoma Child was finished with. Loco was last along the back stretch. In the last round Mac Locanda ran up fast to second place, and. with two furlongs to go. Audience dropped right back. The finish resolved itself into a duel between Loretta Napoleon and Mac Locanda, who got ahead well up the straight and won comfortably by two lengths from the favourite, with Peter Daunt three lengths away third. Kate Logan was fourth and Tupiter next. In the Dunollie Handicap Tiny Author and Merry Peter were the first scratchings of the day. Fifa was 125 tickets better backed than Nelson Parrish. with Great Way forty less in demand. Avoness and White Satin were badly left at the start and Olive Nelson was not long before she dropped back to them. Connie Audubon got away briskly and led past the stand from Childe Boy. Fifa. Mountain Mist, Kitty Patch and Miss Wilkes. Along the back stretch Kitty Patch trotted beautifully and went to the front. Childe Boy broke and dropped back. By the time the stand was reached again Kitty Patch led from Connie Audubon, Fifa, Childe Boy and Nelson Parrish, who was trotting well. Kitty Patch gave a great exhibition of trotting along the back and led round the back from Fifa, who was hard pressed by Nelson Parrish. Connie Audubon was fourth, but broke and dropped back. With two furlongs to go. Fifa went to the front and led into the straight from Kitty Patch. Nelson Parrish was third, but was unable to sustain his effort. Great Way came with plenty of speed, and in a wellcontested finish won by a length from Fifa, who was two lengths ahead of the tiring Kitty Patch. Tot Logan was fourth, followed by Nelson Parrish, Bonora and White Satin. The public were not astray in selecting the winner of the Greymouth Cup, D. Withers landing Mr L. Morganty’s mare. Anon, a good winner. Master Audo was the cnly scratching. Anon was better fancied than the Royal Com-rade-Kreisler bracket by 152 tickets in a big pool, with Denver City backed to less than one-third of the support given the favourites. Royal Comrade again started badly and was well left, a.-; also was Denver City. Black Wattle held a short lead from the start, but Glenrowan soon went to the front and ted for two laps from Black Wattle, Nelsonian being third and Anon lying in a handy position. Passing the stand for the last half-mile the order was Glenrowan, Black Wattle, Anon and High Jinks, with Royal Comrade improving hi*At the back the three lead***— were on almost even terms. straight and went on to win easily by two lengths. There -was a great race for second place, Black Wattle prevailing by a head, -with Kreis’.sr, Glenrowan and Nelsonian within a length. After the Cup race the stipendiarysteward, Mr A. Commons, asked for an inquiry into the apparent inconsistent running of Mr A. Beban’s horse High Jinks, which was unplaced in the Dominion Handicap on the first day. After a lengthy inquiry the stewards decided that, while the stipendiary was justified in lodging a complaint, the facts did not support a case of fraudulent inconsistency'.

Loco, bracketed with Silver Sea, was the only defection from the Victoria Park Handicap. Ratloc, the favourite, was seventy-four tickets better backed than Halswell Queen and 172 more sought after than Sedmere. The race provided the best finish seen at the park for years. Warrenore, a rank outsider, with less than seventy-five tickets on his chances, led throughout the twelve and a half furlongs’ journey, and won by a head, with heads separating the next four horses. Firebrand was second for nine furlongs, while Great Epsom lay third for half the distance and then gave place to Silver Sea. At the mile Ratloc was pulled up. Halswell Queen was handy to Silver Sea when closely' following Warrenore and Firebrand. Into the straight the field swung out across the track, and a splendid race in the straight brought the crowd to their feet to witness a great finish. Halswell Queen was fourth. Audubon Chief was the only scratching from the President’s Handicap. In a good pool Teremoa was most sought after, with Danny Boy and Audience in about equal demand. Auto Minto showed out from the start, but before two furlongs had been covered Bessie Dillon had gone to the front, only to be displaced across the top by Audience, who was first into the straight and led past the stand from Bessie Dillon, Teremoa and Editor. Editor was going well after a bad start. Danny Boy made a run at the halfmile, but soon faded out. and Editor went up to third place. Teremoa went ahead about half way down the straight, Audience being unable to respond. The favourite won comfortably by two lengths, with Editor, hard ridden, third, a similar distance away' Kawau was fourth. All Peters made his only' appearance in the County Handicap and was backed down to even money. Great Way and Tot Logan were within twenty tickets of one another. Fifa again led along the back stretch, but next time past th= post Rose Audo led from Fifa, Nelson Parrisfy, Tot Logan and Oval. Over the next lap the order remained unchanged, except that the two last-named had changed places. All Peters, who had been sixth for two laps, went up fast along the back stretch in the final round, and going across the top he ran to the front. Fifa had mixed her gait and dropped back to third. The favourite had the situation under control and won, easing up, by two lengths from Oval, with Rose Audo a similar distance away third. Tot Logan was fourth, followed by Nelson Parrish, Fifa, Dillon S. and Avoness.
