About a thousand people made the journey to Timaru yesterday on the weekly excursion trains run by the Railway Department. Two trains were filled with excursionists, who were apparent! v not deterred by the heavy rain falling in the morning. The weather at Timaru was fine and warm. About forty people who were prepared i to go on the excursion to rnakakiri Gorge assembled at the sta- I tion, but the weather was so bad that the outing was cancelled. It is not j yet known if it will be run later in the J year. On the train from Timaru Sc j Christchurch there weie 80M people. ' t
