PORT NEWS.
SHIPPING SLACKENS OFF DURING HOLIDAYS. There has been a slackness in both coastal and overseas shipping in the port over Christmas and New Year, and it will be about a week before conditions return to normal. Yesterday the only vessel of any sire in port was the Mahana. CROWDS VISIT HARBOUR. Beautiful weather yesterday attracted crowds of people to the many popular picnic places round the harbour. The regular trains in the morning were well filled, and in addition, several specials were put on by the Railway Department. There were many bathers at Corsair Bav, while Diamond Harbour and Charteris Bay also drew crowds. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Mr W. T. Lester, J.P., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton yesterday, when James William Olley, a third offender for drunkenness, was convicted and ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses.
