BROADSIDE THRILLS AT MONICA PARK.
Of the thousands of persons who made up the record crowd at the Speed'way last week, not one went away dissatisfied in any direction. The racing was excellent, being marked by close finishes, fast times and thrilling broadsiding. Engine trouble was practically unknown, and the crowd were kept excited all the time. The great race of the evening was the special match race between Charlie Perabo and “ Skid ” Perkins, the two Australian stars engaged at the Speedway. Perkins just, won, and this week Perabo is out to avenge that defeat. They will meet again in another match, and another great race should result. The marked improvement of the local riders is making for better racing. Nowhere could a better meeting have been held than that of last week, and prospects are bright for a good one this Saturday. J. Carter has to defend his Gold Sash this week. Fred Sliarman is the challenger, and, judging by his riding last Saturday, he will make the holder go " fiat out ” to keep the trophy. Several improvements have been made in the programme for this special New Year carnival, and a record crowd is expected.
