SUCCESSFUL GALA HELD AT PINES BEACH.
The Kaiapoi Pines Beach Association’s Gala was continued yesterday . and, favoured with ideal weather, was a great success. Motor-cars came from every direction and some hundreds were parked under (he trees. Free transport was provided by the association for visitors arriving by train and for local patrons About 900 people were carried. It was estimated that about 4000 were present in the afternoon. Many modern devices energy and success. All moneys raisea will he spent on improvements to the grounds. A troupe of nigger minstrels added to the fun of the gathering. Chil dren’s sports were held, and a short sports programme for adults. The re suits of the sports were as follows: Oirls:—Four to five—Kathleen Hpgan 1; six to seven—Dorothy Gibson 1. eight to nine—Marion Linklater 1, JessieCreamer 2; ten to twelve—Joan Smith 1, Dorothv Moir 2; thirteen to fifteen— Mavis Brown 1, Winnie Roach 2. Single women’s race—Mavis Brown 1 Married women’s race—Mrs C. Greer. 1. Boys:—Four to five—C. Buchanan 1 six to seven —O. Whitham 1; eight to nine—C. Fitzsimmons 1, E. Fullan 2; ten to twelve—A. Pullan 1, A. Fuller 2; thirteen to fifteen—W. Howarth 1. L. Hutchinson 2. Single men’s race—R. Inglis 1. Married men’s race—W. Whitham 1. Baby Show: —Girls, under six months —Mrs Eden 1. Mrs Boyd 2.
