MOTOR-CYCLES CAUSE NOISE AT HOSPITAL.

BOARD WILL ERECT WARNING SIGNS.

Signs are to be erected asking motorists to proceed quietly when passing the Christchuich Hospital. Complaints of the noise create<jl by passing vehicles were made at to-day’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board.

The chairman of tne Hospital Committee, Mr H. H. Holland, said that there has been complaints of the noise of passing motor-cars and motor-cycles, particularly at nights. He moved that the attention of the police, City Council and Automobile Association be called to the noise created by motors, particularly motor-cycles, at night time, and that the Automobile Association be asked to erect suitable notices. Mr A. T. Smith, who seconded the motion, said that motor-cycles went past, particularly at race time, making noises like a machine-gun. “The more noise these young devils make, the more pleased they are about it,” he added.

Mr W. P. Spencer asked would the motion included trams also.

Dr P. S. Foster said that he did not see why the Automobile Association should put the signs up. Let the board put them up itself if they were necessary. Mr Holland said that the Automobile Association would be pleased to erect the signs if asked to. He felt that the association might feel slighted if it was not consulted.

Miss E. J. M. Cardale said that not only the Public Hospital, but private hospitals should be included.

Mr Holland: I don’t care who does it, so long as it is done. The motion was passed, with the alteration that Mr Holland be empowered to take whatever action he thinks fit in connection with the erection of the notices.
