SENIOR MEDICAL 1 OFFICER WANTED.
OF DESTITUTION GIVEN CONSIDERATION.
The need of medical attention from a doctor with more experience than a junior house surgeon for cases of destitution caused by ill-health was stressed by Mrs T. Green at to-day’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The matter was referred to the Hospital Committee for a report. Mfs Green said that cases of destitution came the Benevolent Committee which were caused through illhealth. These people could not afford a doctor, and they were sent by the committee to the out-patients' department for a medical certificate. A number of these cases were treated by a doctor who was in his first year. The board should have a fully-qualified medical officer for this duty. The best thing t&at the board could do would be to get these people restored to health. In a number of cases the reports of these student doctors were not satisfactory.
Mr H. J. Otley: They are fully qualied. On the motion of Mrs E. R. M’Combs it was decided to ask the Hospital Committee to report on the advisability of having a senior medical officer attend to these cases.
