SURVEY OF STEWART ISLAND BIRD LIFE.
The Hon P. A. de la Perrelle, Min ister of Internal Affairs, stated last night that a very careful survey was being made of bird life at Stewart Island. Arrangements had been made, the Minister stated, to send Captain Yerex, the ex-Conservator of Fish and Game at Rotorua, to visit the _ island and to make a special investigation into bird life and other matters which come under the Animals Protection and Game Act.
Mr Perrelle said that lovers of New Zealand bird life could rely upon his giving all questions affecting it his careful consideration. It is understood that the question of opossums affecting bird life _is also to be inquired into. It is the Minister s desire to obtain full reports from all aspects before the matter is again submitted to the . Government for con sideration.
