NEW PREMISES FOR BANK OF N.Z.
BUILDING MAY BE SET BACK 18 FEET FROM COLOMBO STREET. A report was current in the city today that the Bank of New Zealand had aporpved of the plans for the new building to be erected in Christchurch, and that it is to be completed within twelve months. It is understood that the building is to consist.of six stories and that on the Colombo Street frontage it is to be set back 18ft from the existing street boundary. When the report was mentioned to the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville), he said that he had received no advice concerning the matter. If it were correct that the building was to be set back 18ft from Colombo Street, that would probably be with the idea of the city taking the land for road purposes at a subsequent date. Sir Henry Buckleton, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, is in Christchurch to-day.
