SYDNEY PEOPLE SEEK REFUGE FROM HEAT.
THOUSANDS FLOCK TO BEACHES DURING NIGHT.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received December 10, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 10. Unique scenes were witnessed at Sydney’s beaches last night. The temperature during the afternoon soared to 99 degrees, and thousands of people flocked to the beaches, many bathing until the early hours of the morning. Twelve thousand sought refuge from the heat at Coogee’s shark-proof enclosure. There were numerous accidents of a more or less serious nature, and the life-savers did splendid work.
