Summer Meeting Of Woodville Club.

FORM SHOULD BE OF INTEREST AS PRELIMINARY TO HOLIDAY FIXTURES

(By MARTIAN.) The Woodville Jockey Club will open its summer meeting: to-morrow and bring it to a conclusion on Thursday. Fields are on the big side, with quality well represented, and the fixture should be a great success. The Bolton Handicap will attract most attention, but the sprinters in the Oete Handicap are a good lot and recent form should be a deciding factor. Delude Appeals. Fine Acre appears to have his chance in the Manga-atua Hurdles, the distance being just to his liking, but he is such an in-and-out customer that Delude will probably be more in request. The last-named ran a splendid race at Feilding to finish third to Red Bank and Elysianor in the Cheltenham Hurdles on the second day, and a repetition of that form will make him very hard to beat. Aurora Borealis showed excellent form at the Grand National meeting, when he ran a second and a first, in stronger company than he is now meeting, but he has not had a race since then and may show up later. High Heather is very well and should be able to jump, in which case he should be close up. None of the others looks like being troublesome, and Delude and High Heather may be in the fighting line at the finish. Grattus. The Trial Platers are not a strong lot and it looks as though Pedestal will be a warm favourite. He showed a fair turn of speed at Feilding and should be improved as a result of the race. Tigrano was expected to win a race at Riccarton last month after his good showings at Trentham, but he failed. He should be in the limelight here. Grattus beat all but a good one m Hunting Day on the second day at Feilding and may be the hardest to beat. F. Tilley has a promising sort in Platina, who, although he has not yet raced, has shown galloping ability in his track efforts. Perhaps Grattus and Tigrano will fight out the finish. Bolton Handicap. Kick Off was in pretty good nick earlier in the season when the tracks were heavy, but with 8.13 and the possibility of a track not to his liking, he will not be in such great demand for the Bolton Handicap. First Acre ran well in Australia, while Merry Damon has not shown good form lately. Speanniss has only to race up to what she is capable of to take a hand in the finish. Talisker failed at Feilding after his win at Levin and does not seem capable of running two races alike. He is nicely weighted here and should be handy at the finish. Merry Mint does not appeal, but Mountain Heath and Avro are a lightly-weighted paid that will be hard to shake off. The former beat all but Talisker in the Levin Cup, failing by a nose, and as the outing would improve him he must be given a great chance now. Avro ran improving races each day at Riccarton, finishing up with a great effort m the Otaio Plate, won by Dolomite and Latin Quarter with only heads between them. The chances are that he will be improved now, and he must be held in respect. Mountain Heath and Avro appeal, with Talisker likely to show up. Royal Parades' Form. There is a big field in the Mangarawa Hack Handicap and those looking for a bet will have a number in form to choose from. Knightlike has been expected for some time, but although he invariably runs good races, he does not finish on well enough to collect the money. Royal Parade’s third in the Linwood Handicap at Riccarton was a fine effort, and another run of that merit would see him hard to beat. Brown Sugar was a close second to Sylvan Dell recently, among the defeated being Kaihoro, whose Feilding form was striking. Glenartney has not had a race for some considerable time, but if well he should show up under his light weight. Auda and Repay are both in great nick and should be worth following. Head Serang, Manifesto, Te Awha and Rule Britannia have all been prominent in recent

meetings. Royal Parade and Auda should see out a merry six furlongs.

Kaihoro Fancied. Star Stranger's condition and his showing will be closely scrutinised in the Oete Handicap in view of his prospects in the Auckland Cup, but he will not have many supporters in this race. Kaihoro ran a solid second to Cimabue in the Feilding Stakes and finished second next day to The Raider in the chief sprint, and on that running she will be a popular fancy. Admiral Drake is a quick beginner and should be handy. Atholspear has only to jump out quickly to be in the money. Royal Duke has not shown any form this season. Moa Bird will go out paying any old price, and so will \ eronese, but Aspiring is due for a winning turn. She ran well enough at Trentham and Riccarton,'to be worth following. Kaihoro will be a warm favourite, and perhaps Aspiring will otter the strongest opposition. Princess Betty. Some of the youngsters in the Nursery Handicap have shown good form notably Princess Betty and War Worn' but the first-named’s performances are the more outstanding, and she will be j rd nu * 10 crack - War Worn ran third to Simba and Chrysology earlier m the season. Cylinder was sorted out earlier in the season to make good and he may show up. Arajean may spring a surprise, but form points all the way to Princess Betty. Count Palatine showed himself up in a. very favourable light at Riccarton and despite his weight he will be one of the strongest fancies in the Whariti Hack Handicap. Thrift should be improved since his last run, while Austenty. Royal Black, Chopin, The Masher and Royal Opera have all been in the money lately. A couple of light-weights who will make their presence felt are Balloon and The Mug Chopin s second to Make Up at Feilding and his win next day point to his prospects. Perhaps Count Palatine and Chopin will be the best to follow. The Sprinters.

Toxeuma has a big weight in the Borough Handicap, but he is a class sprinter, and seven furlongs will suit him nicely. Rameses is in form, while Maui was unlucky last time out. Queen s Choice is due for a winning turn after racing consistently in the money. Briar Root may not be ready, but Royal Lineage is in form and with a handy weight should be near the money. Toxeuma and Maui look the picks.
