VIOLENT DEATH COMES TO ELEVEN PERSONS IN SYDNEY
LIFE-SAVERS KEPT BUSY ON BEACHES. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received December 9, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 9. Eleven persons met with violent deaths in the metropolis during the week-end. Six persons were drowned, four of the victims being children ranging from four to sixteen years of age. A tragic affair occurred at Fairfield, where a mother and daughter were nearly drowned in attempting to save a younger child. But for the prompt action of a man there would have been three victims instead of one. Most of the tragedies occurred in creeks and waterholes. The hot weather caused thousands to flock to the beaches, where life-savers had a busy time. At Maroubra sixty-four rescues were effected yesterday.
