FREEZING WORKS WILL OPEN ON MONDAY NEXT.
Although in at least one freezing works the season nominally opened to-day, the season proper will not commence till next Monday. Men have not been called for at any of the works, and it is unlikely that many will be employed at the start of operations. None of the firms expect to have much in before Christmas, except the usual few hundred lambs. Serious freezing begins about January, when all works anticipate full time activity, in spite of the dry season.
