SPEEDWAY ATTRACTS BIG ATTENDANCE.

H. MANGHAM THRILLS CROWD IN SATURDAY’S MILE SCRATCH EVENT.

Although Saturday night’s meeting at Monica Park Stadium was not listed as a big draw, it was attended by a large crowd, the official figures being 4000. This testifies to the success which has attended the introduction of broadsiding to Christchurch on a larger scale than had been attempted before. The attendance represented a drop on the figures for the previous week, when the programme contained several special attractions

Some excellent racing was seen during the evening, the star performer being H. Mangham, who put up some fast times and treated the spectators to a series of thrills. He won the Speedway Mile scratch race. The Gold Sash Match Race, of four laps, was won by J. Carter. Results:— METROPOLITAN OPEN HANDICAP (Four laps, one mile). First heat: H.
