Thirteen thousand spectators were present. Play was bright, with fine batting byMarks. There were many changes of bowlers. Whitfield, although, really a bowler, gave a stylish display of bat ting. He surprised the crowd and im pressed the selectors. Oxenham, however > lacked confidence, and had manv narrow escapes. W all s bowling did not scare the batsn en, but Hornibrook was always dan gerous. Wcodfull’s team encountered disaster early, Woodfull being smartly stumped by Walker, off Oxenham, when 36 He was unable to get going. Oxenham also troubled Fairfax and Allsopp, who went early, while Kippax was completely beaten by one from Grimmett Bradman played dashingly and slogged every bowler with the utmost disdain.
