NEW KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL IS UP-TO-DATE OPEN-AIR STRUCTURE
A beginning has been made with the erection of the new Kaiapoi Borough School, which is to be of the new open-air type. The school is being built dn a block of land five acres in extent, with frontages on to Raven and Ililton Streets (west). When the buildings are completed, it is expected that there will be 31 acres available for playing A 300 feet well has been sunk, from which an excellent flow of water has been obtained, and preparations for the foundations of one of the buildings are well in hand. It is expected that the school will be completed by March next. The plans provide for four buildings, each containing two classrooms with shelter-sheds, separated by a porch. A building is also to be erected as a head master’s office and teachers’ room. Central heating is to be installed. The plans of the new school and schools of a similar type were submitted by lantern slides to a meeting of householders last week, when a resolution was carried approving of the plans and expressing appreciation of the efforts of the Education Board, the member for the district and the School Committee for the part they had taken in securing for Kaiapoi such a muchneeded improvement. It was decided to endorse the action of the chairman of the School Committee fn applying to the Education Board for a dental clinic to be built while the school is being erected.
