CHRISTMAS MARKET.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, •n the Parish Hall, St Stephen’s Church Shirley held its Christmas market. The stalls were decorated with holly and artificial berries, and the stallholders were kept busy supplying the needs of the many people present. A giant plum pudding, five feet high, contained surprises for the children. During the afternoon the St Stephen's Trio, Misses M. Hoare, B. Robertson and J. Osbourn supplied a musical programme. There was again a splendid attendance in the evening, when Miss Brewins's pupils from the Shirley School contributed a number of folk dances. Miss C. Green, accompanied by Miss Audrey Thompson, sang seve ral songs and the St Stephen’s Trio again supplied items. The stalls were in the charge of the following:— Cakes —Mesdames Hancock, Walsh and Brooker. Sweets —Misses E, Mahan, Mattinson and Sharpe. Books —Young Men's Club. Plants—Derrick and Desmond Hancock. Crockery and antiques—Mesdames Owers, Dodds and Hegarty. Household stall—Mesdames Edwards and Gilling. , Fancy stall—Girls Friendly Society Afternoon tea —Mesdames Milligan Gawler and Heward and Miss Joyce Booker. __ , Cold drinks—Mrs Graham. Produce—Mesdames Mahan, Moses. Chinnery and Soames. Sunday School stall—Mesdames Hervey Sutherland and Blank and Misses Horssal and P- Taylor. Christmas pudding—Miss Ethel Flewellyn.
