STRONG WIND AFFECTS PLAY AT WILDING PARK. A strong nor’-wester affected the play in the third round of the senior inter-club competition played on the grass at Wilding Park this afternoon. Play was below the standard seen on previous Saturdays. United proved too strong for Fendalton, but keener competition was seen in matches between Linwood and Avonside. Cashmere had a bye. A doubles match between Seay and Greenwood and Crawshaw and W. S. Somerville provided patches of bright tennis. It was a long drawn-out threeset match. The United pair took the first set easily, but in the next session they met sterner opposition and finally went down 8-10 after being on even terms four times from 5-all. Seay and Greenwood were the steadier combination and this enabled them to take the third set 6-4. Results: FENDALTON v. UNITED. (United names first.) Singles—J. 11. W. Sheppard beat N. G. Munns, 8-6, 6-3; R. 11. Tait beat J. W. D. Fisher, 6-3, 6-0. Doubles—Seay and Greenwood beat W. S. Somerville and Crawshaw, 6-2, 8- 6-4. LINWOOD v. AVONSIDE. (Linwood names first.) Singles—E. Prebble lost to C. Angas, 1-6, 2-6;; A. R. Cant lost to D. Purvis, 5- 3-6; J. R. Johnston beat J. Arnold, 4- 6-0, 6-2; W. Goss beat 11. C. Ford 6- 6-1. joiinston and Goss lost to Angas and Purvis 3-6, 6-8; Prebble and Cant beat Arnold and Ford 6-3, 9-7. Avonside won by 1 set. JUNIOR A. The eighth round of the Junior A competition was played at Wilding Park this afternoon on ,the asphalt courts. The Suburban A, B and C grade games were continued, the Suburban A games being played on the grass. The following are the results: OPAWA v. ST STEPHENS (Opawa names first.) Men’s Singles—N. Brydge-Jones beat H. Thompson, 9-7; N. Franklin beat R. Bond, 9-1. Women’s singles—Mrs M’Ewen beat Miss Thomas, 6-5; Miss Willis lost to Miss Johnston, 5-6; Miss Wickes beat Miss Hawley, 6-2. CANTERBURY COLLEGE v. LINWOOD I. (College names first). Men’s doubles—England and Barrer beat Sowden and Tree by, 9-3.
