NOTES ON THE RACING. Pu richest own was favourite for the inchmore Hack. Audience and Phas*ar were first out, but Royal Heritage Jed for two furlongs, when Garvary joined him. Punchestown headed them at the entrance to the straight, but Master Clarence came with a fast run to win easily from Audience, with Phastar and Gay Crest following at intervals. Punchestown stopped quickly. Lydia was a hot favourite for the Melrose Trot, but went off slowly and was never dangerous. Great d’Oro, Eiffelton Lass and Mussolini were leading at

the end of six furlongs. Mussolini took charge at the mile post, and led Regal \ oyage, Eiffelton Lass, Great d’Oro, and Mister Pointer to the straight. Mussolini then collapsed and Regal Voyage stalled off a late run from Mister Pointer by a neck. Eiffelton Lass was four lengths away. Then came Great d’Oro and Lydia. Night Lad and Chickwheat disputed favouritism in the Tinwald Handicap, the_ former having a slight call. Sea Raid was the smartest out, but Buoyant soon took charge, Gold Brick and Chickwheat following him past the mile post. There was no change till nearing the straight, where Night Lad made his effort. He followed Buoyant to the straight and got up near the post to win by a short head. Quarterdeck was three lengths away, with Sea Raid fourth. Chickwheat collapsed in the straight. Sleipner was a warm favourite for the Lagmhor Plate, with Sapient and Straightcourse the best backed of the others. Quinopal led Sleipner and Straightcourse from a straggling start, and they ( had the race to themselves all the way. Sleipner was in front at the end of a furlong, and led to the straight, where he tired. Straightcourse going on to beat Quinopal easily by three lengths, with Sleipner two lengths away and Compris fourth. Dutch Money was a strong favourite for the Moreton Hack Handicap. Thurso, Ranelagh, Solmuri and Discordia were smartest out. Thurso and Discordia soon took charge, and at the home turn Dutch Money and The Viscount also joined in, with Ranelagh and Solmuri behind the leaders. Viscount was in front when they reached the straight,''where Dutch Money retired. Te Awhina came on with a fast run and beat Ranelagh by a neck. Marsham was three lengths away. Then came The Viscount. The winner’s performance was good after being last away. The Sea Mist and Wrackeen bracket was best backed in the Selma Trot, with Royal Iroquois second fancy. Royal Iroquois was first out followed by Last Pointer. At the end of half a mile, these two were together in the lead, with Some Guy and Sea Mist next. Millie de Oro than moved up fast, and half a mile from home she was in front. Sea Mist followed her to the straight, with Sodium finishing on fast. Millie de Oro won easily by six lengths, while Sodium beat the tiring Sea Mist by half a length, with Royal Iroquois fourth. Rider Suspended. D. Hall, rider of Royal Heritage in the Winchmore Hack Handicap, was suspended for a month for crossing Audience after going about a furlong. RACES ABANDONED AT TAUMARUNUI. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, December 7. The second day of the Taumarunui races was abandoned owing to heavy rain and its effect on the course. The club intends to apply for a fresh date later in the season. SCRATCH INGS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 7. Additional scratchings yesterday for the Auckland summer meeting were:— Cup—Pegaway (2.45 p.m.). Railway—Eaglet (4.26 p.m.), First Money (5 p.m.). WANGANUI NOTES. (Special to the “.Star.”) WAN GAN UI, December 7. Fernden was taken to Feilding for the second day, but was not started owing to having got out of his box prior to the race. M. Gardner will take Fernden, Star Area and Just An Idea to Hawera. Star Area is not badly treated in the Egmont Cup with 8-2 and he is getting through his work in style, which suggests that he should soon be back to top form. Potoaform has been taken up again after a short spell and will probably be taken to Awapani, where Gardner also has Star Area, Fernden, Just An Idea and Mangatarei engaged. Auctioneer is recovering from the effects of an injury sustained at Otaki, but is unlikely to race at Hawera. W. Rayncr gave Drastic and Pedestal a run over half a mile this morning. The former got the best of the jump-off and was in front all the way, running the first furlong in 12 2-ssec, and the quarter mile in 24 4-ssec, finishing up against a strong wind in 52sec. She looks all the better for the race at Feilding, where she had a bad passage and was never prominent. Ceremony is to be given a spell for a month. The son of Absurd went off on the trip to Australia, where he was never himself. Though he won a race at Rand wick, he was allowed to take things very easy in the hope that he would freshen up for the Feilding Stakes, but his display showed that he was off colour. A month in the paddock might have the desired effect. F. Tilley’s team for Woodville will include Avro, Thrift, Glanartney, and a maiden named Platim, a three-year-old filly by Callaghan from Isabel, and therefore a half-sister to Cashier, and Otairi. This filly is said to be able to gallop. F. Tilley has Cashier, Consent, Cadiand, Platini, High Falutin and Ruanui engaged at the Manawatu meeting. _
