WORK ON ROAD NEAR CARLTON BRIDGE WILL SOON BE COMPLETED.
About three-quarters of the work necessary in the widening of Carlton Mill Road near the Carlton bridge has been completed. If the weather remains fine the whole work will be finished shortly. Sixteen feet on the south bank, some distance along from Shrewsbury Street, has been cut away and the opposite bank has been filled in over a similar area. The main work yet to be done is the joining of the rock wall, all but completed, with the bridge pier. Thirteen men are engaged in the work. The road will give better access to the bridge and lessen the danger of accidents. The crack in the bridge is fairly evident from the western side. Two workmen were engaged this morning in minor excavation work on the inside of the bridge.
