4000 H.P. MOTOR-CAR TO ATTEMPT RECORD.
KAYE DON HOPES TO IMPROVE ON SPEED. (United Press Assn.—Ey Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, December 2. Motor-racing experts are to make a careful inspection of Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, to consider the possibility of 'adapting them to motor record-breaking conditions. Although the sands extend for seven miles and are, in certain conditions of wind and tide, suitable for high-speed car attempts, there is a stream at one end of the run which is considered to form a dangerous obstacle. The problem is whether this obstruction can be overcome in order to give a long enough course.
The inspection is being undertaken mainly at the instance of the Sunbeam Motor Company, which has constructed the four thousand horse-power Silver Bullet, a car in which Kaye Don hopes to improve on the world record of 231 miles an hour that was established by Sir Henry Segrave in his one thousand horse-power Irving-Napier Golden Arrow at Daytona, America. Captain Malcolm Campbell also has ambitions to establish a fresh record with his 1300 horse-power Blue Bird, that was designed by himself. He will use Pendine Sands if they can be made suitable.
