ANOTHER STAGE OF SUMMIT ROAD PATH TO BE COMPLETED.

Mr H. G. Ell returned yesterday from an inspection of the Summit Road formation work, between Morten’s Bush and Evans Pass. He is delighted with the prospect of the realisation of his long cherished hope, that some day he would see a new and beautiful way along the heights of the Port Hills and over the hills of Banks Peninsula, parsing by the pretty native bush reserves in Kaituna Valley, Mount Fitzgerald and Mount Sinclair, to Akaroa. The fulfilment of his wish has been made possible sooner than he expected, through the help ot Mr Langbein and the sympathetic cooperation of the men at work on the formation of the Summit Road between Gebbie’s Pass and Morten’s Bush. Along the faces of the cliffs at the Xgaiho bush a path has been benched oxi t which will enable walkers to reach Gebbie’s Pass. For fifteen years these cliffs at the Ngaiho Bush have prevented the advance of the Summit Road track Now that this obstacle is out of the way Mr Ell is setting to work to have the track made through the very rough country beyond the Sign of the Pack Horse on the Kaituna Pass. When this is done there will be a beautiful and interesting walk for the people of Christchurch all the way from the Sign of the Takahe past the Sign of the Kiwi on Dyer’s Pass, past the Sign of the Bellbird at Kennedy’s Bush, on past Cooper’s Knob, Morten's Bush, and down to Gebbie’s Pass, across the hills eastward and up to the Sign of the. Pack Horse by the pathway past the Devil’s Staircase. From the Sign of the Pack Horse to Akaroa the pathway will provide the finest and most beautiful walk in Can terbury. Mr Ell hopes the work ot forming this final section of the Port Hills-Akaroa Summit Road pathway will be started early this week.
