CRIPPLE BURNED TO DEATH; COULD NOT MAKE ESCAPE.
MAN, UNABLE TO WALK, LEFT ALONE IN HOUSE WHICH CAUGHT FIRE. (Special to the “ Star.”) GREYMOUTH. October 27. A tragedy occured at Blackball night, Thomas Egan, aged twenty-five, being burned to death. His parents and the other members of the famil} were out. Deceased, who was a crip pie and unable to walk, was alone in the house. , When the fire was noticed about 5.40 the flames had a firm hold on the residence, and it was impossible to reach Egan. A water supply was not available, but in any case it would probably have been useless as the outbreak was not discovered soon enough. The remains were recovered and the funeral will take place to-morrow. An inquest will be held at Blackball. Tour sisters of the deceased reside in Christchurch.
