ASHBURTON NEWS.

OBSCENE LANGUAGE USED BY MAN IN BILLIARD SALOON (Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON. October 14. At the Police Court, before Mr A H. Fenn, J.P., Henry Blackwell, a labourer, aged twenty-four, pleaded not guilty to being on enclosed premises without lawful excuse, and guilty to using obscene language. The incident occurred at a billiard saloon, when the proprietor objected to the defendant’s presence. Blackwell was fined 40s on each charge, in default four and three days’ imprisonment respectively. A fortnight was given in which to pav. The Hospital Board, on the casting vote of the chairman, Mr W. T. Lill. rejected a motion by Dr J. R. Wells that an honorary medical and surgical staff be appointed, and that a committee, consisting of Messrs Lill, Gallagher and himself, be appointed to bring down details. A very long discussion, somewhat heated in parts, took place. The voting was: For the motion. Dr Wells and Messrs Ilardy, Campion and Gallagher: against, Messrs Lill, Frampton, Bryant and Horsey.
