Dick, while riding his motor-cycle towards the city, struck the right mud guard of the car, which was going towards Culverden. The vehicles must have met with considerable force, as one of those who arrived shortly after the smash states that the motor-car went through a fence and was nearly on the railway line. The motor-cycle was forty-five feet away from the car and the rider was lying fifteen feet away from the cycle. The motor-cycle was badly crumpled up, but the car escaped with a twisted mudguard. After skidding on the shingle on the road, the car swerve*! into a ditch on the right-hand side and turned over on its side. The occupants fortunately escaped with minor injuries, and after, attention by Dr M. Ramsay, were able to return to Christchurch.

The car was badly wrecked, the body being practically beyond repair.

A motor-car was badly smashed and its driver, Lionel Williams, aged twentythree years, residing at 18, Quinn’s Road, Shirley, received severe head injuries when it collided head on with a tramcar shortly before seven o’clock on Saturday evening. Williams was taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition, but he recovered later, and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Williams was driving his car along Worcester Street towards the city and met the tram outward bound just past the Stanmore Road crossing. The car a Rugby five-seater tourer, struck the right step of the tram and slewed round, three of its wheels being wrenched off. The bonnet was pushed in, and the car finished a complete wreck.
